Politics of an Automated World

That our world is becoming more and more automated is a reality that cannot be denied.  As companies seek to make themselves more competitive, the inevitability of a fully automated workforce becomes more certain with each passing year.

An automated production line can be run twenty-four hours a day.  Machines do not agitate for better working conditions – nor do they demand a higher wage.

Our generation is very close to witnessing an economy where all traditional blue-collar jobs (and many white-collar jobs) will be eliminated by the use of new technology, automation, artificial intelligence, and robotic workers.

This is Donald Trump’s Election to Lose

Donald_Trump_by_Gage_Skidmore_2-701x467Donald Trump made a horrible misstep when he diluted his position on deporting illegal aliens.  It’s been one of the primary reasons that he’s been as successful as he has as a first-time candidate.  He seems to have corrected course (mostly), but he’s done his brand some lasting damage.  I don’t believe that he can withstand making that mistake again.  No matter what the media and the two political parties tell you, this election is all about the specific issues that Donald Trump has put forward — it’s not about the likability or popularity of either candidate.

Trump vs. Hillary and the Global Elite

For years, the two-party system has been failing the American electorate.  On one side, we have the Democratic Party who’s packaged itself as the party of the people.  They claim to be for higher taxes on rich people and greater benefits and services for everyone else.  They’ve been the natural home for progressives, socialists, communists, and leftists of every stripe.  They call for greater government powers, more regulation, and bigger budgets.

It’s Time to Dispense With Paul Ryan

Paul RyanWho does Paul Ryan think he is?  He’s not royalty.  We shouldn’t need to court him like some reluctant school girl in order to get him to support the Republican nominee.  He just came out and pointedly refused to support Donald Trump… again.  For God’s sake, he’s the Republican Speaker of the House!  Someone needs to explain to him that the #NeverTrump crowd has lost — and they were never a significant portion of the Republican Party in any case.  He’s just an elected representative, not some sort of potentate.  If Ryan can’t enthusiastically support Trump as the Republican nominee then he needs to be removed as Speaker — he is not representing the will of the Republican voting base.

So You Say You’ll Never Vote For Trump?

donald-trump-on-snlFor decades the working class base of the Republican party has voted for one loser after another.  We didn’t like the candidates who made it through the process, but we understood the implied contract of party politics.  Sometimes we had to deal with establishment insiders, like John McCain and Mitt Romney, but we sucked it up and voted for the party’s choice.  Most of the time we thought that the candidates were outright tools of the corporate elite and donor class — but we were willing to respect the will of the voters and rally around even the weakest of candidates.

The Trump Phenomenon

REUTERS/Jim Young - RTX1KTWTDonald Trump is still dominating the Republican field despite the dire predictions of everyone in politics and the media.  Every time Trump says something politically unconventional, he is attacked by the professional political class.  Currently we see the establishment in an uproar over his comments promising to temporarily stop Muslim migration into the country.  Yes, he did say temporary, and he says it’s only until the nation’s leaders figure out how to address the incredible amount of hatred coming from the Muslim world.  Unsurprisingly, his opinion is shared by a large segment of American society.

Bernie Sanders Just Gave Up

screen_shot_20151015_at_2.49.19_pm.png.CROP.promovar-mediumlarge.49.19_pmTuesday’s Democratic debate was nowhere near as compelling as either of the two Republican debates, but it was eventful because the front runner wasn’t knocked from her position.   Hillary Clinton made it through unscathed, and she’s the automatic winner as nobody scored any political points at her expense.  That’s the way things work in primary debates and boxing.  You need to knock the champ out to be declared the winner.

The Donald Trump Express

usa-election-trumpThe media and the professional political class are dumbfounded at the rise of Donald Trump.  First they said that he was only pretending to run for President for the free publicity.  Then they said that he’d never publicly release his financial information.  Then NBC, Univision, and Macy’s severed business ties with him.  That was probably a mistake if the idea was to stop his White House run, as he now has nothing to lose.

Donald Trump is Doing us a Favor

Donald TrumpThe media and the elite political class are apoplectic over Donald Trump’s statements.  Some are just infuriated that he’s openly speaking about subjects that they don’t want to address, and some are simply too dim-witted to realize that, in the real world, when you hit someone, they’ll hit you back.  Let’s try to look at the situation as dispassionately as possible.
